UPDATE: IRCC's Express Entry Points

Updated: Apr 22, 2020

Effective June 6, 2017, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC, formerly known as CIC), has added new additional "bonus points" to their comprehensive ranking system for Express Entry. You can read about the changes on the IRCC website.

Under the new system, candidates will receive:

  • 15 or 30 points if they have Strong French language skills (15 points if the applicant scores 7 or higher in all four skill areas on their French language test and 4 or less on their English test (or if they don't even take the English test); 30 points if they score 7 or higher on their French language test and 5 and higher on their English);

  • 15 points if they have a brother or sister that is a Canadian citizen or a Permanent Resident living in Canada.

The Government's rationale is the changes are: "French-speaking newcomers contribute to the growth, vitality and prosperity of Francophone minority communities across Canada" and "Studies have shown that as newcomers build a new life in Canada, those with siblings benefit by having improved integration into Canadian society".

I have also updated my Express Entry points matrix (below) to reflect these changes.
